Biography

Susan Hightower specializes in trademark law, with a primary focus on litigation. She has experience representing clients in inter partes proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, as well as in federal court.

Susan has a strong background in trademark appellate practice and served as a judicial clerk to Judge Jacques L. Wiener, Jr. of the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. On behalf of the American Intellectual Property Law Association, she co-authored an amicus brief in the case In re Bose and argued as amicus before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Susan also has co-authored amicus briefs to the Second and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals on behalf of the International Trademark Association.

Prior to attending Stanford Law School, Susan was a journalist, most notably working for nearly six years as a reporter and editor for The Associated Press. Together with her husband, David, Susan spends much of her free time volunteering on behalf of animal welfare organizations.
